My, your and her story

Getting a cancer diagnosis is not a girls dream, but it is not  a death sentence either.

My level of fear and emotional roller coaster was the worst when I got to know - after my operation - , that instead of  Stage I. I have Stage III. Cancer. I of course didn’t know I had a serious disease in the first place, I didn’t know how long it will take to recover from my  lumpectomy operation, let alone did I know that it can get even worse.

When I was 18, my Aunt stayed with  us for a few days in her final stage. We took care of her with my mother. Her weak state left a fearsome memory in me. Am I going to be in such a state?

I instantly felt the overwhelm of how am I going to handle all this.

What will happen to my family if I am not there for my kids, what will my family and friends say to this?

Who will help me if I needed it?

How will I tolerate the weakness and most of all how am I going to go through a 10 – 11 Month long treatment, which is so unimaginably long to bear. Such a long treatment is impossible to bear. I have never been sick for so long, I basically thought  I was leading a healthy lifestyle. The first diagnosis was not so severe. What triggered this?

Everything was coming to me at once. What could be the reason I got cancer?

Such a long time in treatment will change my life, my environment, my family, my relationships, who knows what else?

Thinking back, I call this state “cancer mind games”.  In this state it is completely normal to be flooded by such thoughts.

Where do these thoughts come from?

Between my diagnosis and my surgery I went out jogging and tore my meniscus in my knee. My life stopped completely, I had to lie down all day, legs up high until my operation.

The diagnosis, the biopsy, the whole process and “stage setup” how I was several times told that I have cancer altered my mind in those days, maybe weeks.  I was in an imbalanced health state in the first place because of my tumour and my mental imbalance grew even more with the first and then the more severe diagnosis.

However, there was a point when I hit the bottom and started to bounce back. There was this picture memory in my head of me being old and healthy, that my mind grabbed and I clung onto it.

My life instinct said “ you are going to live. You are going to get through this and live a long and healthy life. “

I didn’t know how I will do this, but I knew from then I will get through it.

Some people ask themselves “Why me? “  I wasn’t very concerned about this. I think we all do our best and what we are able to do. If we had known before how to do it better, or how to prevent it, we would have definitely done it. This is why there is no reason to blame ourselves for getting it, let alone stress ourselves further to worsen the situation even more.

SOLUTIONS are around the corner and you are never alone.

  1. Chronic stress is a major component of developing any disease, the first solution for relief  is to learn to relax. The situation can feel very disempowering, but you always have choices and remember, you are always in your power to change your life, help yourself, and do things to increase your healing capacity. We are all different bio-individuals and perceive our situation, the diagnosis, our environment, our treatment outcome in different ways. There are 200 different types of  breast cancer and as many outcomes as many diagnosed there  are. The medical treatment is more and more individualised and a first choice is to find a surgent, a doctor you trust. It is always possible to ask for a second opinion, in fact some doctors suggest you do so. Creating and maintaining an optimistic mindset can be key not to fall back and keep you going as you navigate through to healing. This has many details,  like planning your best outcome step by step e.g. in a journal dedicated to your healing can feel like getting things more under control.
  2. There is more and more  scientific evidence that lifestyle including our environment has a crucial effect on cancer growth. This means taking care of yourself, finding as soon as possible ways to help your body terrain to practice its defence function, the better. Integrative cancer care offers a wide possibility to help your immune  system recreate its healthier response.

Integrative cancer care = conventional cancer care + complementary therapy + self – care.

In the beginning the most important thing is to BELIEVE that you will get through this and ask questions often about how you can help yourself besides finding the best conventional treatment provider, the best protocol for your individual situation. MINDSET is key.

  3. I don’t like to say I am a cancer survivor, because I was not in war with my cancer. War, surviving is fear driven and that is victimising.   We all have cancer cells in our body, in a healthy state our immune cells detect and eliminate excess cancer cells.  Cancer was an imbalance in my body, that I accepted to surrender to. Why? This meant that I accepted and surrendered to the situation I was in and started thinking about which direction I can start climbing out from there. This needed time.  To digest the bad state I was in, but accepting that it is not my fault. Creating a VISION OF HEALTH I wanted to grow to,  which became much  stronger than my fear of what is going to happen during the treatment.
